(For additional see family history, see Alex's and Clare's biographies.)

Darcy Jane McGregor is not nearly as cutesy as her name might lead you to believe. As a matter of fact, she's actually a bit of a spiteful little bitch. But what else would you expect from the youngest in a family of five? The fact that all five children were born within five years did little to dissuade her complex; as a matter of fact, it made her even more desperate for recognition, as she could never even really be considered the baby of the family and be doted upon as such. She has the mindset of a middle child more than anything. Her older siblings were more or less peers, but rather than becoming friends or allies, they became competition.

This led Darcy to make deliberate attempts to succeed where her siblings had failed. For instance, when Clare (the older sister closest in age to her, and the one Darcy most frequently measures herself against, though not always consciously) failed to make the cheerleading squad, Darcy made it her goal in life to get in, which she did after one initial failed attempt that made her want it even more. (Now that she's finally in, it's actually kind of anticlimactic, though she'd rather crawl to hell and back before quitting and admitting what it was really for: only to prove a point and not much more. Besides, she does like the automatic social status that comes with those ridiculous pom poms.) She wants to prove that she's better than all four of her older, and thus (so it's always seemed to her) more poised and generally cooler, siblings in any tiny way. She wants to be considered a worthwhile person too, not just the fifth mistake in five years.

Although this makes her very driven in some areas, it also makes her slack in others. She wants to be special, and will thus tend to ignore the things she can do that her siblings can do as well-- or, God forbid, can do better than she can. Darcy is also acutely aware of her own flaws and weaknesses, and doesn't try to do anything she can't be the best at. Clare is the smart one of the family, and even though Darcy knows she's bright, she also knows she's not brilliant, so she doesn't even try to get Clare's grades or SAT scores. Besides, pretty much all of the kids are fairly intelligent, so big whoop if there's another A+ on the fridge, right? Not to say she's in danger of flunking out of school either, but her college applications will definitely focus more on her extracurriculars and what a well-rounded person she is and what an awesome personality she expresses in her personal statement.

She also focuses considerable time and energy in building up her social life and acquiring as many friends as possible. Of course, this means that many of these "friends" are little more than casual acquaintances, but hey, as long as she has more Facebook friends than all her siblings combined, what does that matter? Darcy is very friendly and outgoing, though some might say she's too friendly and outgoing for it to be totally genuine. She's been accused of being flaky and shallow on more than an occasional basis, but those people are probably just jealous of how popular she is, right? Her actual level of popularity could actually be debated, as she's one of those girls who everyone seems to smile at and hang out with, but then say bad things about when she's not around. She may be popular, but she's not necessarily well-liked. But if she's really as shallow in regards to her relationships as everyone seems to think, then she should know to expect the same back, right? Well, maybe not necessarily. Darcy tends to want everyone to like her more than she likes them, and to like her the best, even though she's even somewhat aware that it's a totally unfair expectation if she doesn't care about people as much as she wants them to care about her.

Sometimes it seems like there isn't really anything she does that is entirely for herself. She does dance because Clare couldn't; she doesn't do music because Alex can. But one thing she started doing entirely just because she felt like it is acting, or the fine art of going LOOKIT LOOKIT LOOK AT ME!!! Darcy basically spends her entire life performing anyway, inventing catastrophes in her everyday life to throw hissy fits about and strutting around like the school hallway is a catwalk, wanting to be seen and needing to be noticed. So isn't it better to do it in some structured format so she can put it on applications and make being a desperate attention whore seem like a good thing?

She does both school plays and student films, though she prefers the stage. She likes to say it's because theatre is more real and alive, and her talent is too big to be contained on a tiny little frame anyway-- which is really just a nice way of saying she has a tendency to be overdramatic, which works well for a tiny person on a huge stage, but not so well when the camera's right there. And those do all play into it, but another secret reason is that she actually can't stand looking at herself on the big screen, and worrying about how she might look during a shoot makes her way too self-conscious to focus on actually acting. Because she secretly thinks she's the least naturally attractive of her siblings, despite all her cocky comments, she makes a conscious effort to always dress well and look presentable. She can't do anything about the way her face looks in general (at least, without resorting to surgery, and she'd like to think she isn't that awful-looking), so she does everything she can do, whether it's experimenting with her hair or bleaching her teeth every night or obsessively washing her face. She also makes sure to eat well and exercise regularly, though dance and cheerleading would do that for her anyway, thank God.

Because so much of herself is still entirely based on being the opposite of whatever her siblings are, Darcy still doesn't have the clearest sense of self just yet, in regards to the things she does just because she wants to do, and the person she'll eventually have become because of them. Of course, the fact that she's only sixteen might have something to do with that as well. When asked what she wants to do eventually, her immediate and only response has always been acting professionally, but even she realizes how difficult that would be in the real world. She's beginning to slowly branch out into other activities and hobbies, maybe even paying more attention to her grades, looking through her older siblings' old college handbooks and weighing her options. Even though she couldn't tell you exactly where she'll be and what she'll be doing and who she'll have become in ten years, she's starting to realize that it's high time she got to work on that whole... ugh, growing up thing her parents keep talking about.

- Born Darcy Jane McGregor on August 3, 1992, the fifth child in five years for Michael and Elizabeth McGregor. Hates her name and plans on changing it when she starts looking for work as a professional actress. Assuming that day ever comes, anyway-- which she still hopes it does, but is no longer relying solely on.

- Frequently daydreamed about being an only child, or having been switched at birth with the child of a rich couple in show business who only had one kid and pampered her to an obscene degree. Still does sometimes, actually.

- Music has never been her strong suit. Gets cast in musicals due to her acting and dancing abilities, and knows it-- and so does everyone else, which often leads to resentment from other girls who may be better singers, but aren't as good at the other stuff. To them, she says two beats one, so there. Privately, kind of self-conscious about it. Isn't completely tone-deaf or anything, and does have a decent, strong (especially strong) voice, but she has to really work at it to hit the right note every time and not have it sound too painful, especially when attempting the higher notes. Hers is definitely a character-type voice than anything. Which is good, actually, since her acting style is more situated towards comedic roles for alto belters anyway. Think Adelaide over Sarah in Guys and Dolls-- which she's starred in as the former, thank you very much.

- Loves the color pink, but thinks she looks awful in it. Her bedroom is almost entirely done up in it, to compensate: pink walls, pink sheets, pink curtains, pink everything.

- Has a habit of hitting on her siblings' male friends. Doesn't even mean to do it half the time. The other half... well, it's certainly not her fault that they have such attractive friends, is it? And it's not like she's trying to steal their friends and/or potential boyfriends away just to prove they like her better because she is better... Oh wait, yes it is, just like everything else she's ever done in her life. Whoopsie.
